Matt’s odds and ends

Here are a few odds and ends for everyone to enjoy:

I got published in ISSA Journal while I was gone—my article is entitled Current and Future Threats to Digital Forensics [subscribers only]. It’s very exciting (well, at least to me)! I can’t put it up for 18 months, so everyone will have to [...]

Days 8&9: more Iguazú and the last of BA

This is it for the trip (we’re home now), but some of the best pictures yet are from Iguazú on the Argentina side. There are more than 200 up in the photo gallery.
As fun as the greedy, hissing anteater/raccoon things were, the wildlife here was much more diverse. Matt and I both had butterflies [...]

Day 7: Iguazú Falls (and Brazil!)

Matt again - this morning we got up quite early and made our way to Jorge Newberry domestic airport in Buenos Aires to catch our Aerolineas Argentinas flight to what would turn out to be the amazing Iguazú Falls.
We were bumped to the next flight, which made us a bit grumpy since we were very [...]

Days 5&6: Uruguay and BA

We woke up to a foggy day on Monday, seasick patches in place, and walked two blocks over to the Fluvial Terminal to catch our Buquebus ferry to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay (known affectionately as Colonia).
The trip over was smooth, and we landed in Uruguay around lunchtime. We immediately noticed how quiet and pollution-free the [...]

BA Day 4: crowds and steak

A couple quick notes since we’re off to Uruguay for the day. Yesterday’s photos are up, and I’m linking to the interesting ones with people in them.
Yesterday was the most adventure-like day yet. The alarm clock had two power outages around 8 am. We slept late, took a cab over to Plaza Dorrega, a ride [...]

BA Day 3: Plaza San Martin and relaxation

Matt here - I thought I’d get in on the fun and write a bit about our relaxing day yesterday here in Buenos Aires. After our monstrous dinner Friday night at Las Nazarenas, we ended up sleeping late on Saturday. We took our time getting going, and by the time we got [...]

BA Days 1&2: Recoleta and Congreso

We’re traipsing about on our third day in Buenos Aires (BA). The first day is a bit of a haze, as we landed that morning and, though we slept well for an overnight flight, it was not nearly enough. We spent most of the day napping and wandering aimlessly, including a long walk down Calle [...]

Hartley family reunion

We had a great time this past weekend at the Hartley family reunion in Princeton, North Carolina and got some great pictures we thought we’d share with everyone. Enjoy!

Passports: bureaucracy in action

The good news: In six days Matt and I head to Argentina, Uruguay, and (maybe) Brazil.
The bad news: I applied for a new passport in mid-April, and heard nothing for more than three months.
(Side note: if any South American experts have suggestions or travel tips, we’d love to hear from you.)
I never reached full panic [...]
