Life is good

I’ve been feeling sorry for myself lately thanks to a mysterious foot injury which has resulted in an abruptly sedentary lifestyle.

I perked up a bit last Tuesday as I walked down a cherry blossom lined street in Old Town Alexandria. About a block away, I saw a cute family exit a building and congregate on the sidewalk—two women about my age (one with hot pink stripes in her hair), and four kids ranging in age from 2 to 8.

By the time I caught up with them, the two-year-old bent backward over his mother’s knee in full tantrum. As I sidestepped the group, trying not to disturb anyone, I noticed the sign on the building they just left: Commonwealth Funeral Home.

Suddenly, my life didn’t seem quite as bad.
