The weather blogs predicted a horrible winter for the DC area this year. I’m not a big fan of snow, but I was half hoping for a blizzard, preferably one like the 2003 storm that dropped two feet overnight.
While it has been unusually cold, we saw only flurries up until this week, when we finally got two inches of snow. I know, it’s a tiny amount, but it was kind of exciting, and so pretty.

And I’m glad I have a husband who’s an expert at shoveling. Not that I couldn’t have done it myself, but it’s nice not to worry about unnecessary abdominal muscle usage at the moment.

The excitement wore off when the snowstorm was immediately followed by an ice storm, as they tend to around here. The next morning the cleared sidewalks and cars were covered in an inch of ice – the type that makes it hard to pry open the car doors, not to mention chisel down to windshield, all while balancing on an ice rink.
Now the streets are clear, and there are wide expanses of snow covered in ice, which is beautiful in the afternoon sun. I passed a golf course on my way home from work on Friday and thought the hills looked like they were covered with seven-minute frosting. Not that everything relates back to food these days, but I did go home and make a cake.
ALLEGRA!!! I was so excited to find your link on Marissa’s blog. How are you doing? Please fill me in on the past 10 years since high school!
