Matt and I used to have a good photo system. When we went on vacation, he would take hundreds of photos, and I would comb through them and post the good ones. After a standard trip, I would put up one photo for every five he took, keeping the repetition to a minimum.
With the arrival of Eva, the system broke down. Our new first-time parent system goes something like this.
Between the two of us, we take more than a hundred photos a month. August has been particularly bad because Matt has been running experiments with his camera. When I go to sort through photos I delete the blurry ones, but the rest look equally good to me.
I say to Matt, “Okay, I’m down to three similar photos. Which one should I post?”
Matt looks at the photos a few times and says, “They’re all good. Post them all.”
And so we now have clusters of pictures like this one, which I call The Five Faces of Eva (click on the link and click “Next” four times).
Or this sequence of photos Matt took while reacquainting himself with our nice camera (click on the link and click “Next” eight times).
That said, I still manage to do a lot of editing. Though the August gallery has an out of control 75 photos in it (and the month is not quite over!), that’s down from 219 pictures.
If you’re a direct relative, like a grandparent or a great-grandparent with a high threshold for Eva photos, go look at all 75. They’re really cute.
Anyone else… I’d wait for the highlights, which I’ll post in a few days. Unless, of course, you’re looking for some Internet procrastination. Then by all means, spend a few minutes in our August gallery. Did I mention the photos are really cute?
When Jonathan was born I had this problem. For awhile I even had the photos categorized in folders by DAY (how ridiculous is that??!) It got less crazy as he A) got older and B) got brothers.
