Well – it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, so I thought I’d drop in a quick note to say that I’ve just finished class number eleven in my PhD program. This summer I’m working on an independent study and have two classes left past that – then it’ll be prelims and dissertation time! [...] Due to popular demand, here are more photos of Eva settling in at home. So far, she has met one of her Uncles and her Aunt, and spent more time with her Grandpa and Grandma. She loved it, and can’t wait to spend some serious quality time with her other Uncle, her other Grandparents, and [...] Over the last couple of days of our relaxing holiday here in snowy Kirkland, we have successfully migrated our entire photo album to our new zenphoto engine at http://ajmatt.com/pictures. We also adjusted all the 2008 blog entries to reflect the change, but posts previous to that will stay broken. There are just too many!! More [...] It’s been a busy latter half of the year, as many of you can probably tell by my almost complete lack of posting on our blog. I thought it might be wise to post an update before I go back to my draft posts from January and March and try to actually get them done. [...] … and it looks like we’re going to meet our guest blogger in early May! Easter Island was incredible, lots of hiking, moais, caves, and petroglyphs – and we of course promise lots of pictures once we get to a stable, fast Internet connection. Right now, we’re back in Santiago airport waiting for our connection to Calama, the airport closest to San Pedro de Atacama. This town is on [...] Amtrak’s Acela Express is a nice train that provides business class service and rapid speeds between DC and Philadelphia, perfect for my travel needs. In fact, I traveled so much last year I made “select” status, which I took advantage of this afternoon on my way home by using a free upgrade voucher to first [...] Having survived an overwhelming semester of two classes at the same time along with a very busy few months at work, I’ve spent the last two weeks vegetating on TV shows I’ve missed, watching Blu-ray movies I’ve wanted to see, trying new restaurants and going out to see new movies (unbelievable, I know!), and reading [...] “On behalf of the Graduate School of Virginia Tech, I am pleased to inform you that based upon the recommendation of the Science and Technology Studies faculty, we can offer you admission to the Doctor of Philosophy at the National Capital Region Campus. Congratulations!” The lunar eclipse tonight was as amazing as we expected. While I was in class, Allegra braved the below-freezing cold and snow flurries for over an hour and a half attempting to get pictures with our high-zoom camera and telephoto lens. Needless to say, once class was finished, I dashed home and took more pictures. [...] |
